Chrome Extension
The PII Firewall Chrome Extension automatically protects your conversations on major AI platforms and email services — no configuration required after installation.
Supported Platforms
| Platform | Protection |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Input masking + injection detection |
| Claude (claude.ai) | Input masking + injection detection |
| Google Gemini | Input masking + injection detection |
| Gmail | Incoming email injection detection |
| Outlook (Web) | Incoming email injection detection |
Installation
- Open the Chrome Web Store (coming soon — apply for early access at piifirewall.com)
- Click Add to Chrome
- Confirm permissions and click Add Extension
- The PII Firewall icon will appear in your browser toolbar
How It Works
Once installed, the extension runs silently in the background:
- You type a message in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini as normal
- Before the message is sent, PII Firewall scans the text
- Any detected PII is replaced with a masked token (e.g.,
[EMAIL-1]) - The masked message is sent to the AI
- The AI response is returned and your original data is restored locally
Example:
| Stage | Text |
|---|---|
| Your input | Please review this contract for John Smith, john@example.com |
| Sent to AI | Please review this contract for [NAME-1], [EMAIL-1] |
| AI response | I've reviewed the contract for [NAME-1]... |
| Shown to you | I've reviewed the contract for John Smith... |
Settings
Click the PII Firewall icon in the toolbar to:
- Toggle protection on/off per site
- View detection log — see what was masked in the current session
- Adjust sensitivity — choose detection level (Standard / Strict)
Permissions Explained
| Permission | Reason |
|---|---|
| Read and change data on AI sites | Required to scan and mask your input before sending |
| Storage | Saves your settings locally |
PII Firewall does not read your browser history, passwords, or data on any site not listed above.
Troubleshooting
The extension isn't masking my input
- Make sure the extension is enabled (check the toolbar icon)
- Try refreshing the page
- Ensure you are on a supported platform
The AI response looks different than expected
- This is normal — masked tokens in the AI's response are restored before display
- If restoration fails, check that you have an active session
